Dear Donald,
\JThanks for your letter about assembly operations. I showed it
to Lou Paul and the other people here. As you can see by the
enclosed paper, we've been doing a fair bit of thinking on
this subject, too. If you have time, you might try writing
a few short examples using the different levels of primitives,
to see if they meet your needs. I'd be very interested to
see what an "outsider" thinks about them.
Enclosed is
a first draft of
\F1HAL, A Programming System for Automation,
(Preliminary Report).\F0
We intend to publish this document within a month, and would
appreciate any comments or criticisms that you might have.
We also would like permission to quote you in our published
version, should we want to include your remarks.
Since time is pressing, we would like your comments as
soon as possible; if you are unable to tend to this matter
personally, perhaps you could share the report with your associates.
